Job Opening---Volunteer Development Coordinator CARITAS Volunteer Development Coordinator Supervisor Executive Director Hours: 40 hours per week including some evenings and weekends Salary: Based on experience and qualifications Benefits: Competitive Responsibilities: To provide leadership in engaging Richmond-area volunteers to become active participants in fulfilling the mission of CARITAS in offering emergency shelter, collecting and redistributing home furnishings, and creating employment opportunities for the impoverished in our community. Qualifications: College degree, advanced training, and significant experience working with volunteers in a nonprofit environment. An interest and desire for working with the underprivileged is necessary. An understanding of the underlying causes of homelessness is preferred. This position will interface with a large cross-section of the faith community and various levels of paid staff. Well developed written and verbal communications skills are essential, including some experience and comfort with public speaking. Preference will be given for an individual with enthusiasm for using technology to collect and share information. Virginia driver's license, good driving record and reliable transportation are necessary.. Primary Duties: * Identify and recruit volunteers by developing and maintaining community contacts, including relationships the local faith community, local colleges and universities, retired citizens, employers, HandsOn Greater Richmond, and other resources. * Screen potential volunteers matching their skills with available volunteer opportunities. * Develop and process application forms, position descriptions, background check forms and training materials. * Maintain continuous communication with the different program areas regarding volunteer requirements and needs. * Provide Strategic direction for including volunteers at all levels of the organization. * Administer an annual assessment of volunteer projects that can be planned for corporate, youth, and family groups. * Assist and encourage volunteers to move from interest to involvement, engagement and investment in CARITAS. * Train volunteers regarding community-wide homeless service delivery and more specifically, the CARITAS shelter, furniture bank, and employment operations and best practices. * Act as the liaison between volunteers and administrative and operations staff. * Schedule and coordinate volunteer-intensive events including regularly scheduled training sessions, City-Wide Furniture Drive and annual Volunteer Dinner. * Maintain a volunteer schedule and contact and e-mail database. * Provide direction for AmeriCorps Volunteer Specialist. * Create an environment conducive to a positive volunteer experience by maintaining regular contact and providing on-going training and support as needed.
